"Best" depends on what you want out of it. If you want deep, degree-level expertise with an international study tour built in, INSD's B.Des is the strongest option in Kolkata. If you want to get into the industry fast, the 1-year Diploma gets you there through live projects rather than years of classroom theory. Yes — the Diploma in Interior Design assumes no prior design background. You'll start with space planning and material fundamentals, then move into live projects and site visits within the first year, working alongside practicing designers rather than just studying under them.
INSD Kolkata is in Sector V, Salt Lake — central enough to reach from most parts of the city. But proximity shouldn't be the only factor: since this program is studio and site-based, it's worth visiting in person to see the material library and current student work before deciding, rather than choosing by distance alone.
Styling covers decor, furnishing, and how a finished space looks and feels. A full interior design course goes further — space planning, technical drawing, material science, and how a space actually gets built. INSD's Diploma and B.Des cover both, so a styling-only skillset doesn't leave you boxed out of the technical side of the industry later.
Two things most institutes don't offer at this level: live client projects during the course itself, and an international study tour to the UK, Paris, UAE, and USA as part of the B.Des.
